To enhance academic research and publishing capabilities among faculty and students, and to solve the academic difficulties of "Publish or Perish", an academic exchange event was recently held in Conference Room B340 of Zhihua Building at Nanchang University. This event specially invited Anna Min Du, tenured professor of finance at Edinburgh Napier University and director of Craiglockhart Campus, as the keynote speaker. Under the theme “Publish or Perish: Myths, Realities, and Strategies for Success,” she provided an in-depth sharing on the core principles and practical strategies of academic publishing. The lecture attracted an on-site audience of over 50 faculty members and students.

During the lecture, Professor Du began with an overview of the current academic publishing landscape, illustrating the intense competition in research publication with detailed data and statistics. Drawing on relevant cases, she emphasized that the theoretical contribution and practical relevance of research questions are key to manuscript acceptance. Regarding practical writing and submission skills, Professor Du carefully unpacked the structure of high-quality papers, highlighting the core requirements of each section. On sustaining long-term publication success, she summarized three essential elements: building a systematic theoretical framework, expanding methodological diversity, and cultivating resilience in the face of setbacks. Long-term research achievement, she noted, relies on continuous theoretical accumulation, ongoing learning of new research tools, and a constructive attitude that views rejection as an opportunity for growth.
The event focused closely on the pain points and challenges in academic publishing, offering both theoretical depth and practical value. With her extensive industry experience and vivid case analyses, Professor Du provided clear guidance on paper development and submission, broadening the research perspectives of attending faculty and students. During the interactive session, participants engaged in in-depth discussions with the professor, creating a dynamic and lively atmosphere. This event has established a dialogue platform between university members and international experts, laying a solid foundation for breakthroughs in scientific research and innovation in the humanities and social sciences at Nanchang University.
