Program Overview
The doctoral program in Theoretical Economics, as a first-level discipline with independent doctoral-degree authorization, was officially approved in 2024. It offers four research directions: Political Economy, Western Economics, Population, Resources and Environmental Economics, and World Economics.
Rooted in the theoretical system of socialist economics with Chinese characteristics, this discipline is dedicated to cultivating high-caliber economic professionals who possess firm political convictions, solid research capabilities, and profound patriotic sentiments. These talents are expected to innovate and apply cutting-edge economic theories and methodologies to interpret the theories, policies, and practices of "the revitalization and development of old revolutionary base areas" in the context of Chinese-style modernization. The discipline has been awarded the Second-Class National Teaching Achievement Award (Graduate Education Category).
It boasts a faculty team of over 50 distinguished scholars, led by nationally and provincially recognized talents, experts of the National Marxist Theory Research and Construction Project, and chief experts of major projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China. In recent years, the faculty has undertaken and completed more than 50 national-level research projects, including major and key projects of the National Social Science Fund and general projects of the National Natural Science Fund. Their research findings have been published in over 100 high-impact academic journals such as Management Science, Journal of Bank & Finance, Economic Research Journal, China Economic Quarterly, and China Industrial Economics, with several works selected into the National Philosophy and Social Sciences Achievements Library.
