Program Background

To adapt to the requirements of economic globalization for business administration talent cultivation, enhance the internationalization of economic management education, and deepen reforms in talent training models while improving teaching quality, Nanchang University launched the Business Administration (Sino-French Experimental Class) in 2010.

Training Objectives

The Sino-French Experimental Class aims to:

1) Leverage the university’s strengths in management disciplines and Sino-French cooperation foundations;

2)Draw on advanced undergraduate teaching experiences from foreign countries (primarily France);

3)Cultivate all-round talents in business administration with modern management knowledge, strong foreign language proficiency (especially French), and an international mindset;

4)Lay a solid foundation for students to pursue the Master of International Management (MMI) degree (co-taught with French university) or study in France.

Program Foundations

Nanchang University has offered undergraduate programs in business administration for over 30 years. The current Business Administration program is a National First-Class Undergraduate Program, National Characteristic Major, and Provincial Brand Major. It also has:

1)A second-level doctoral program in Regional and Industrial Economic Management;

2)Academic master’s programs in Business Administration;

3) Professional master’s programs in MBA;

4) A strong faculty with rich teaching experience.

Approved by the Ministry of Education and the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Nanchang University has collaborated with Université de Poitiers (France) since 1997 to offer a master’s program in business administration awarding French degrees. Over 28 cohorts have graduated, with more than 1,500 alumni. Building on this program, cooperation has expanded to fields including hospital management, public administration, science and engineering, and humanities. In 2005, the two universities co-founded the first Confucius Institute in France and Western Europe.

Training Model & Process

The Sino-French Experimental Class emphasizes internationalization in curriculum design, teaching content, and methods, with alignment to the Sino-French master’s program. The 4-year undergraduate program allows students to pursue a 2-year master’s degree in France upon graduation. The process is as follows:

1) Undergraduate Phase (4 Years)

Teaching follows Nanchang University’s curriculum. Graduates with passing grades receive a Bachelor of Management degree and a graduation certificate in Business Administration.

2) Master’s Admission Assessment

In the final year of undergraduate study, French partners assess students’ professional knowledge and French proficiency. Qualified students are admitted to Université de Poitiers as master’s students, register officially in France, and proceed to master’s studies after graduation.

3) Master’s Phase (2 Years in France)

Courses are offered at the Institut d’Administration des Entreprises (IAE) of Université de Poitiers. The program includes a 4–6 month corporate internship in the final semester.

4) Degree Awarding

Students who complete all master’s courses, internships, and thesis defenses receive the Master of International Management (MMI) degree from Université de Poitiers. This is a French National Diploma (Diplôme National), recognized by China, Europe, and the U.S. It can be authenticated at the China Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) and the Education Office of the Chinese Embassy in France (for the Certificate of Returned Overseas Students).

Teaching Features

The undergraduate program has four key features:

1) Optimized Curriculum. Draw on advanced experience from foreign countries (primarily France); Aligns core foundational and professional courses with international standards, emphasizing basics, practicality, and internationalization.

2) Enhanced Language Training. English proficiency meets non-English major undergraduate requirements. French is taught in small-sized classes, ensuring students reach the level required for French master’s programs by graduation.

3) International Teaching Resources. French courses use original French textbooks; approximately 1/3 of language classes are taught by foreign teachers. Senior-year professional courses use French textbooks and are taught in French or bilingual (French-Chinese), with lectures from French faculty.

4) International Exchanges. Activities include: French teachers giving lectures, exchanges with French students studying at Nanchang University, and funded short-term study visits to France for eligible students.
