The Institut Franco-Chinois de Management (IFCM) at Nanchang University is a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution officially established in January 1997, based on an agreement signed between Nanchang University and the Université de Poitiers (France). Approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Education Commission of Jiangxi Province, it launched a Master's program in Business Administration awarding French degrees in the same year. It is among the earliest higher education institutions in China authorized to confer foreign academic credentials through Sino-foreign cooperative education.
The mission of IFCM is to strengthen academic exchange and cooperation in management science between China and France, cultivate international senior business management talents proficient in modern management skills, expand connections and collaboration between Chinese and French business communities, contribute to the development of economic and trade exchanges between the two countries, and serve the economic construction of Jiangxi Province.
IFCM’s work encompasses six key areas:
1. Master’s Program: Jointly offer the Master’s in International Business Management program with French partners, awarding French national master’s degrees.
2. Undergraduate Experimental Class: Participate in the Sino-French experimental class for undergraduate business administration, emphasizing internationalization in curriculum design, teaching content, and methods, while aligning with the master’s program.
3. Teaching Training: Undertake training for French language teachers in Jiangxi Province.
4. Services for French Students: Accept and arrange for French students to study and intern in China, offering courses/lectures on Chinese language, economy, and management.
5. Academic and Cultural Exchange: Facilitate academic and cultural exchanges between China and France, including mutual visits of scholars and students, and collaborative research projects.
6. Business Collaboration Promotion: Promote connections and cooperation between enterprises in China and France, as well as other EU countries.
Facilities and Quality Assurance
IFCM’s office is located in the Zhihua Building of the Qianhu Campus. The building is equipped with advanced facilities, including multimedia classrooms, language labs, computer rooms, reading room, multimedia conference rooms, and an academic lecture hall—providing first-class learning conditions for students.
Both Chinese and French sides arrange for senior faculty to provide full-process teaching and guidance for students’ French language learning, professional courses, and corporate internships, ensuring high-quality education and training. Additionally, IFCM emphasizes scientific research and textbook development: faculty from both sides have undertaken projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, China-EU Higher Education Cooperation Programs, and multiple provincial/municipal-level research topics, and have compiled a series of textbooks and academic works.
Achievements and Alumni
Since 1997, IFCM has consecutively trained 28 cohorts of Master’s in Business Administration (renamed Master’s in International Business Management in 2013) and 5 cohorts of Master’s in Business Administration (Hospital Management Track), totaling over 1,500 graduates. It has also sent nearly 1,000 Chinese students to study in France and hosted more than 150 French students to study in China.
Graduates are recognized for their solid academic foundation, international background, strong practical abilities, and pioneering spirit. Many hold middle-to-senior management positions in Chinese and foreign enterprises, while others pursue doctoral studies at universities at home and abroad.
Logo Interpretation
The acronym IFCM derives from the center’s full French name, Institut Franco-Chinois de Management. The outer circle “C” is the initial of the French word Coopération (cooperation), with a gap on the right symbolizing innovation and breakthrough. The number “1” not only forms part of the acronym IFCM but also represents the commitment to striving for first-class international cooperative education.
